Monday April 8th, 2024 - Woodside Eclipse eLearning Day Expectations

Posted Date: 3/25/24 (9:46 AM)

Hello, Warrior families,

As you may have already heard, SACS district leadership has decided to shift to an eLearning Day for Monday, April 8th, 2024 due to circumstances surrounding the eclipse. Monday, April 8th, 2024 will be a more “traditional” eLearning day for students and staff with NO zoom sessions. Woodside’s school office will be open that day 7:00AM to 3:00PM.

For attendance purposes, Woodside students will need to complete the eLearning module that will be located in the students’ Class of 2028, Class of 2029, or Class of 2030 Canvas course. The module will be clearly marked as “Eclipse eLearning Day” and students will need to complete all mandatory parts of the module for attendance that day. Students will be directed to send their questions to their administrator or school counselor if they need some assistance with the module. The hope is to have the module accessible to students by the end of this week in the event that students would like to work ahead.

No portion of the school’s eLearning module will require that students view the eclipse in real time, however, the school did purchase glasses for every student and staff member if they wish to view this phenomenon at home on April 8th, 2024. The glasses we purchased for students meet all the safety requirements for safely viewing the eclipse. The glasses will be distributed to all students on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024 in their White 4 class. The students will be encouraged to take the glasses home and put them in a safe place over Spring Break so they can take advantage of them during the eclipse. Part of the eLearning module assigned to students for April 8th will include instructions on how to safely view the eclipse, but if you wish to review some key safety items with your family at home, here is a link to the American Astronomical Society (AAS) on “How to View a Solar Eclipse Safely.”

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Woodside administration in the office by calling 260-431-2701.
